Cancellation Policy (Important)

If you are not able to attend your appointment, please et us know right away!  Other patients who are waiting would appreciate using the time with the doctor if you no longer need it.  We charge $50-100 for missed appointments or those cancelled with less than 48 hours notice.

Preparing for your appointment

  • Please bring your provincial health card and a piece of photo identification.
  • Please bring details of any drug insurance coverage you have to see if any prescriptions or IUD costs will be covered.
  • We have a pharmacy next door that can help with submitting claims to your insurance company.
  • For IUD Patients: Please DO NOT purchase your IUD prior to your visit, as some women change their mind after receiving more information.

You may want to arrive about 10 minutes early as you may have to complete some forms.

  • Although most appointments are booked for 20 minutes, we suggest you budget about 1 hour for your visit.

For IUD Appointments

For IUD Services

  • An IUD placement procedure only takes a couple of minutes, but the doctor will talk to you before and after the placement.
  • You may need extra time to purchase your IUD and/or give a urine sample.
  • We have women rest for about 10-15 minutes after your IUD is placed.
  • If you are hoping to have your IUD placed on the same day of your consult appointment, please continue to use your normal birth control method consistently and correctly right up to the day of your appointment.

We will send you more detailed information about how to prepare for your IUD placement visit by email once you have booked an appointment time.

Clinic Policies

To allow The IUD Women's Clinic to offer quality medical care that is inviting, comfortable and respectful to all involved, we ask that all patients review and comply with the following office policies. Please speak with your physician if you have any concerns.

Scheduling

Please limit your visit to 1-2 of your most concerning issues, and book follow-up visits for any remaining concerns.  Walk-in visits are to be limited to one problem only.  Patients who are waiting will appreciate your cooperation.

Group Practice Model

We practice what is known as a group practice model.  All our physicians embrace similar philosophies and approaches to women’s health issues.  We strive for cooperative care for all our patients.  We will do our best to accommodate appointment requests with a preferred physician.  Due to changes in physician schedules, we cannot guarantee physician availability.  We will however do our best to honour your request for an appointment with an alternate clinic physician, or reschedule as needed.

Test Results

Test results cannot be given over the telephone.  Please book a follow up visit if you are concerned or would like to review results with the physician.  You will be called if the results are abnormal, or the physician would like to discuss your results in more detail.  Please ensure your contact information is up to date with the front staff.

Referrals

If you require the services of other physicians or clinics, our office will arrange the referral for you.  You should receive notification of the referral appointment by telephone or mail within about 2 weeks.  If you do not hear from the clinic within this time frame, please call to ensure arrangements are being made.  Please ensure your contact information is up to date.  Making referral appointments is alot of work!  You will be charged $50 if you fail to keep your appointment with a referring office without prior notice.

Cancellations & No-Shows

Patients with urgent medical concerns would appreciate using time with the physician, if it is no longer needed by you.  Please give 24 hours notice for all cancellations.  You will be charged $50-$100 if you miss your appointment or cancel with less than 24 hours notice.  We regret that we will no longer be able to book appointments for patients who continually miss appointments or cancel with short notice.

Prescription Refills

We do not offer prescription refills by telephone.  Please book an appointment if your medication is running low.  It the patient’s responsibility to make sure they have enough prescriptions to last until their next visit.  If you lose your prescription, you will be charged $25 to fax a new prescription to your pharmacy.

Telephone Consults

Our physicians do not offer consultations over the telephone.  Please book an appointment if you would like to speak to a physician.  You can also try calling Health Link for general medical advice at 403 943 5465.

Uninsured Services

Not all services provided at The IUD Women’s Clinic are covered by Alberta Health and Wellness.  You may be charged directly for services such as form completion and notes.  Please consult the lists posted in the clinic, or speak to your physician if you are unsure if you will be charged.

Respectful Behaviour

We strive to offer an environment that is comfortable, inviting and respectful for all.  Abusive behaviour will not be tolerated.
